Property overview
The Indianapolis Zoo Entry and Chimpanzee program consisted of a multi-phase delivery. Work consisted of renovations to existing buildings (architecturally and structurally), modifications of existing hardscape and landscape features, demolition of existing buildings and new construction for Visitor Services as well as multiple Chimpanzee buildings, yards and a trail system over 1,000 LF!
A New Front Door to Des Moines.
Zoo guests now enter the Zoo via the White River Gardens, showcasing 3.3 beautiful acres of conservatory and outdoor garden space. Guests travel through the Conservation building where the Global Center for Species Survival is showcased. This space is filled with audio, visual, and informative displays.
A new Visitor Services building was constructed as well as all new hardscape and landscape to welcome the Zoo guests. Near the new main entry, is the first Chimpanzee exhibit that was constructed. The primary feature of this Entry Exhibit is an outdoor yard for the Chimpanzees consisting of a multi-level tower structure with platforms of varying heights and dimensions with plenty of ways for the Chimpanzees to navigate throughout.
